I recently bought a 28' Cape Islander wooden boat with a 4.3 mercruiser engine and an alpha 1 stern drive. The oil in power trim motor looks as though it has water in it. I emptied the resevoir and replaced the oil but when I trimmed the drive up and down a couple of times the oil looked like it was still contaminated. Does anyone know how to get all of the old oil out of the system>
Thank you

Thank youHello and welcome to Endless Boating.

Would you happen to have your Engine and sterndrive serial numbers handy? And if not do you have the year of your engine and sterndrive?

The engine is late 80's. The trim motor is a J1171

Have a look at the service manual, You will want to unhook the hoses at the pump, Then raise and lower your drive a few times by hand to pump out the oil in the trim cylinders.

The trim cylinders may need to be resealed if they are letting water leak inside them.
