binnacall control install

Hi newbie here just a quick question i just got this boat i took in trade for a piece of junk mustang...lol anyways its a project boat with a 86 90hp evinrude v4 with side mount controls i want to install binnicall for the center console but everybody says i need an adapter? :confused: adapter for what if its a omc evinrude control why does it need an adapter? :shakehead:.

i think omc changed there control box design, it won't fit your engine - that's what the adaptor is for. - hope that helps.
