Hi all, BearZahn from Brisbane Australia.
Have a project 1977?? 850 merc rebuilt power head, leg, working on timing and corroded wires on stater. Might have to try removing black compound to get to non green wires reseal. Any comments as to how good or bad these 850's are.

welcome most of the older outboards are good motors. it all depends on how it was taken care of. it sounds like alot of the hard work was done. good luck

My aunt had a 1980 Merc 800 for about 2 years that was a great motor. :thumb:

Any comments as to how good or bad these 850's are.Rinse those wires in a product called Tarn-X it will remove the corrosion. Just seen it done and it works great.
