how do i check my timing on my 1995 150 johnson.:drool:

Hi Steven,

The way you do it, varies a bit depending on your specific model and the kind of electronics it has on board.

I would be careful trying to set the timing without a proper manual, as getting the setting wrong could cause pre-ignition, which can result in piston damage.

well the thing that confuses me is a web site i found on the ois ignition system says to un hook and ground the tan wire on the port side temp sensor but if i do it just sets off the over heat alarm

If I'm not mistaken, some of the powerpacks have limited on-board diagnostics and can control the timing advance to some degree as well.

And there is also special procedures if you have the quick start feature. Years ago, you could more or less set the timing by using the old timing at WOT way. With the advent of more advanced electronics though, it doesn't really work anymore.
