installing a new control unit - shifter in an 87 4Winns

Hello All, I've been trying to install a new shifter unit in my '87 4Winns....I'm hoping that just the unit will swap out...and I won't have to replace the entire cableing system.

That said....does anyone have experience with this type of repair?

The unit is a side mount, it appears that the new unit will need to be mounted at least 2" forward of the existing unit/hole.

I believe the cables will work from one unit to the other.
