Can anyone help me decide what kind of batteries to get for my boat.
Do I need a starting battery and then a deep cycle house battery for my dual battery set up ? Any insight would be appreciated

Use a starting battery to start the boat then switch to the deep cycle to run radios and other things when docked. if you use a deep cycle to start the boat the Cold Cranking amps will be lower and put a heavier strain on your starter. also if you use a starting battery to run electronics when docked/stopped it will drain the battery quicker. one of each is the only way to go. but get a good battery selector switch that allows the alternator connected to charge batteries.

Thanks for the reply
I was told that if you run 2 agm batteries that you don't have to have one starting battery and one deep cycle for running stereo etc because the agm can be used for both is this true.

The AGM batteries are great batteries but I still prefer a starting battery to start the boat. but that is just me.
